Jim Lucey & Paul Roe: How to Connect, Collaborate & Create Meaningful Friendships

Jim Lucey and Paul Roe - Building Emotional Resilience

This month on the Building Emotional Resilience webinar series we have something unique, not one guest but two! Prof. Jim Lucey and Dr. Paul Roe. Two amazing people who just happen to be thought leaders and friends!

Prof. Jim Lucey is a psychiatrist, a regular contributor to the media, a keynote speaker and author of three best-selling books. His most recent, ‘A Whole New Plan for Living: Achieving Balance in a Changing World’ was published in 2021 and written during the 2020 lockdown. He has recently been announced as the Mental Health Commission’s (MHC) new Inspector of Mental Health.

Prof. Lucey was educated at St. Michaels College in Dublin and at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) where he qualified in medicine in 1977. He trained in psychiatry at St. Patrick’s Hospital in Dublin and at the Maudsley Hospital in London, graduating with an MD from Trinity College, Dublin and a PhD from the University of London. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland and of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in London, as well as a member of the College of Psychiatry of Ireland.

If you are fortunate enough to have heard Jim speak you will know that he is both witty and wise. He manages to help us question our limiting beliefs and forge a pathway to positive mental well-being.

Dr. Paul Roe is a Professor of Clarinet at the Royal Irish Academy of Music and a Lecturer at the Technical University of Dublin. He is also a professionally accredited coach and mentor. His passion in life is collaboration as a truly transformative way of living a more integrated life. Paul enjoys the rich dialogue of performing, teaching, mentoring and co-creating powerful learning spaces with students and artists alike.

‘The Art of Collaboration’ is where Jim and Paul have formed a firm friendship.

Renowned musician and coach Paul Roe has brought together a collective of musicians and thought leaders to explore the variety of natures, qualities and experiences of differing collaborative practices, and crucially, what can be learned from those understandings while offering audiences a unique insight and heightened understanding of the mind and of the performer.

Core to ‘The Art of Collaboration’ is to positively examine differing approaches to music-making and by extension musical collaborations. The musicians come from a broad and diverse range of musical backgrounds, which straddle various forms of learning and interpretation. The project is also research based with four leading thinkers in the worlds of education, health (mental and physical), science, business and design.
