About Philip McKernan

Philip McKernan is a speaker, author (Dead Man Walking, Rich on Paper, Poor on Life, and One Last Talk: Why Your Truth Matters and How to Speak It), filmmaker (Give & Grow, which explores how giving (not just financially but of one’s time, presence, story) gives people meaning, connection, worth).  He is also a respected coach / mentor who works with entrepreneurs, leaders, and others who want more purpose, clarity, and courage in their lives. He describes himself as a “brilliance agent,” someone who helps people discover their gifts (as opposed to merely talents) and live in alignment with those gifts. His background includes growing up dyslexic, struggling in school, feeling misaligned despite success in more conventional terms (income, status). These experiences feed into much of his teaching and speaking. Philip runs retreats ( BraveEntrepreneur) and immersive experiences, especially in places that allow people to step out of their normal rhythms and confront deeper questions of identity, purpose, and alignment.

Philip’s work is global: he’s travelled widely, worked with people from many backgrounds, built projects in various countries (e.g. building an orphanage, community work) and he creates experiential work (retreats, documentaries, immersive experiences) not just talking or coaching. This allows people to feel the change and embody it, not just think about it. He leverages his own story, including struggle (dyslexia, feeling invisible, imposter emotions) as part of the teaching.

He has spent the last 3 years restoring a 500-year-old castle set on 22 acres of rainforest on Ireland’s west coast. BraveCastle welcomes leaders from all over the world who come for deep immersive retreats. Philips’ flagship retreat BraveSoul is the place to start if you want to connect to your why, begin to uncover your gift, and explore living a meaningful legacy. Philip believes the deeper you go, the higher you fly.

Learn how to uncover your gifts and ensure they align with your values.

Philip McKernan has built a reputation for his unapologetic approach to working with entrepreneurs, leaders, and athletes all over the world, who all believe, there is more for them, and in one form or another, want to live a more courageous life. Philips’ mastery is helping people connect – connect to the work they were put here to do. His pioneering philosophy SoulSet™ , equips and empowers people to uncover their unique gifts (not talents) and use them to impact the world. He tends to differentiate talents (skills you can develop, socially rewarded) from gifts (innate deeper capacities that allow you to move people, to make meaning).

He stresses the importance of alignment: doing work, living life, making decisions that align with one’s deeper truths, not just external measures of success. He also emphasizes, vulnerability, speaking one’s truth, sharing one’s story, including the hard parts, both for personal healing and to encourage others and warns of the inadequacy of chasing only goals or external success without inner coherence: he critiques focusing too much on mindset or status without ensuring this aligns with your deeper values.
